The Fair Trade Experience 2010

Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th February 2010

Greencity are sponsoring The Fair Trade Experience. Scotland's biggest celebration of Fair Trade, featuring food and drink stalls, music, comedy and more.

Living Wage

Greencity's Babs MacGregor went to the launch of Glasgow City Council's Living Wage scheme at Glasgow City Chambers.

The scheme encourages employers to pay workers a living wage of at least £7 an hour.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation defines the living wage as:

The level of income needed to provide an acceptable standard of living in Britain to ensure good health, adequate child development and social inclusion.

Greencity is proud to support the campaign for a living wage for all people in Glasgow.

Lord Provost Award

Glasgow Co-operative celebrated its 30th Anniversary with an Award from the Glasgow Lord Provost.

GreenCity Wholefoods received a Certificate of Commendation for Best Business at the Lord Provost Awards. Glasgow City's First Citizen, The Lord Provost Bob Winter acknowledged the contribution GreenCity has made to the diets of Scottish people as well as its pioneering role in Fair Trade. After a night of celebration Tommy Duffin, personnel manager said,

This was a great occasion where individuals' as well as companies' contributions to the city of Glasgow are recognised. For a co-operative such as ourselves to win it has gave all the workforce a boost and a real sense of pride. We have maintained the same ethos since we were formed thirty years ago- a democratic workplace supplying natural, fair trade and organic food to small independent shops. For GreenCity to be in the same list as the poet Edwin Morgan, Francis McKee, Amar Latif, footballers John Greg and Billy MacNeil was a fantastic honour.
